Chestnut

The chestnut group is a genus of eight or 9 species of deciduous shrubs and trees in the beech family Fagaceae, native to temperate areas of the Northern Hemisphere. The name also pertains to the edible nuts they create.

Chestnuts belong to the Fagaceae family, which likewise contains beeches and oaks. The four principal species are generally known as European, Chinese, Japanese, and American chestnuts, some species called chinkapin or chinquapin: European species sweet chestnut is the only European species of chestnut, although it was effectively launched to the Himalayas along with other temperate areas of Asia.
