The chestnut group is a genus of eight or 9 species of deciduous shrubs and trees in the beech family Fagaceae, native to temperate areas of the Northern Hemisphere. The name also pertains to the edible nuts they create.


Chestnuts belong to the Fagaceae family, which likewise contains beeches and oaks.
